SAN ANGELO, TX -- Tom Green County has been designated as a Purple Heart County in recognition and remembrance of veterans who are recipients of the Purple Heart Medal.
At the regular Commissioners Court meeting Tuesday morning, the court approved a proclamation presented by Commander Nester Hernandez , 740th Military Order of the Purple Heart. The Purple Heart Medal is awarded to military members who are injured or killed in the line of duty.

Also Tuesday morning, Commissioners voted to allow one vendor who had submitted a proposal to lease the Stephens Central Library Cafe to withdraw the proposal. Lonestar Coffee was one of three vendors who submitted a proposal to lease the cafe space in the library downtown. The previous tenant’s lease was terminated because he failed to pay rent. Commissioners could award the lease as early as next week.
The court also awarded a bid for six new Ford Explorers for the Sheriff’s Office. The bid covers four fleet replacement vehicles for deputies, one to replace a wrecked vehicle, and one unit for the mental health deputies. The purchase was awarded to Caldwell County Ford in the amount of $221,005.60.
Commissioners also approved a purchase order for $376 to replace the windshield on a privately owned vehicle. A county road and bridge crew was hauling road materials near Miles, TX recently and a rock fell from a county vehicle and broke the windshield of the privately owned vehicle.
