Commissioners Award Contract for Goodfellow AFB Building Renovation

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Tom Green County Commissioners Tuesday morning awarded a contract to Mid-Tex construction company for the renovation and repair of a building at Goodfellow Air Force Base.

The county is a pass through agency for funding from the Governor’s office for projects to retain and expand military operations in Texas. Commissioners back in February accepted a Memorandum Of Understanding between the County and the City of San Angelo Development Corporation to administer the Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant (DEAAG) from the Governor’s office for $4.5 million.  The Development Corporation will kick in an additional $1.5 million and the military will add $2.8 million in kind.

The project will include expanding GAFB’s dining facility by 150 seats and renovating two buildings to accommodate intelligence and firefighting training missions.  According to information presented to the court, $2.7 million of the DEAAG grant is earmarked for new construction and $1.8 million will go to rehabilitating existing buildings.

The contract awarded Tuesday was for $1,549,066.00 to renovate and repair building 3453.

In other business, commissioners approved a change order for the new jail facility that will provide for additional secure parking including two parking spaces for inmate buses. The change order approved was for an additional $66,502.49 for 25 parking spaces and the two parking spaces for the buses.

Commissioner Bill Ford is holding a public meeting in Christoval Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. about the Texas Parks and Wildlife grant for Pugh Park.  The meeting is to discuss the grant project and will be held in the Community Center on Main St.
