Ballots by mail have been mailed to voters that had an annual application for a ballot on file. Voters that do not have an application on file will need to apply for this election by calling 325-659-6541 and requesting an application or by going on the website and clicking on the Ballot by Mail Application link, completing the application and returning it to the election office. Voters are reminded that annual applications are only valid for a calendar year and will need to apply for elections to be held in 2016 in January 2016. “By Election Code, applications will not be valid if they are received prior to January,” advised election administrator Vona Hudson. “We ask that anyone that wishes to apply for next year wait until 2016 to request the application due to the possibility of changes and the fact that they will not be valid if received any sooner,” continued Hudson.
The deadline to register or update voter registration information is October 5th. Voters have a number of ways to achieve registration or updates but an original voter signature is required. Blank applications are available on the webpage, under the Voter Registration Application link, by calling the office and requesting a form be mailed to them or by emailing the request to: [email protected].
“The primary election will be on March 1st,” advised Hudson. Filing periods for candidates are fast approaching. The filing period for precinct chairs began 9/1 and continues until 12/14. Other offices, including filing the intent to run for independent candidates, will have the filing period of 11/14 to 12/14.
