AUSTIN - Honorable Dianna M. Spieker, Tom Green County Treasurer, joined hundreds of colleagues from around the state at the 42nd Annual County Treasurers' Continuing Education Seminar in Austin, April 21 to 24.
The annual seminar offers treasurers the opportunity to learn new and vital information, so they can better serve the citizens of Texas.The annual seminar is sponsored by the LBJ School of Public Affairs, University of Texas at Austin. The school provides continuing education opportunities through various seminars, institutes, and conferences, manyof which are planned and conducted in collaboration with professional organizations of public officials, like the County Treasurers' Association of Texas.
The seminar helps treasurers complete their state-mandated, minimum continuing education requirements. The seminar offered 20 hours of credit to treasurers attending all of the sessions, five hours of Public Funds Investment Act credit and five hours of continuing education for the County Investment Academy.
Included in this year's program were:
• Legislative Updates ahead of the 84th Legislative Session;
• A panel of experts discussing the Public Funds Investment Act;
• An economic update;
• Personnel and human resources information;
• Round table discussions with counties of similar populations; and
• An update on the Affordable Care Act's impact on counties.
