What do Thanksgiving Dinner and Blood have in common?
You can give blood and get a turkey at the Stephens Central Library on Nov. 16 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the third floor community room.
Donors will receive a voucher for a free frozen turkey, a coupon for a free appetizer at Logan’s Roadhouse, as well as the usual cholesterol checks and donor points available on personal profiles at www.bloodhero.com.
Brisket sandwiches will be provided for donors.
Blood drives like these are done before major traveling holidays to be prepared for the worst case scenario in accidents requiring transfusion.
Blood can take up to 48 hours to be readied for hospital use, making it necessary to have gathered blood at least two days before potential large-scale accidents.
Check out www.unitedbloodservices.org to see if you qualify to donate blood.
