San Angelo saw a tragedy Tuesday at 10:55 p.m. when a three-car crash resulted in the death of a 52-year-old male; yet another local life presumed to be taken by drunk driver.
The crash occurred at the intersection of 33rd and Bryant when Gary Coleman, headed south Bryant with his son and the other male in his car, attempted to turn left on 33rd St.
In turning, Coleman pulled in front of a 2012 Dodge truck driven by Brandon Churchwell that was heading north, and was struck on the passenger side of the vehicle, where the adult passenger was seated. Coleman’s car then collided with a 2005 Ford Ranger that was stopped at a sign at the intersection.
When Police Officers arrived on the scene, they discovered that Coleman’s passenger was deceased. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Eddie Howard. Both Coleman and his son were transported to Shannon Hospital for non life-threatening injuries and admitted to the hospital.
Chruchwell was treated on scene by paramedics and released; the passengers in the Ranger, Joshua Fulton and Melissa Moreno, were not injured in the accident.
The crash is currently under investigation by Detective Callum and Traffic Officer M. Gesch, and alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor. Coleman refused to cooperate with investigators on scene, however a blood sample was taken due to the death in the accident.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending the next of kin being notified.
