Laundry Thief Caught Robbing Guests at Days Inn

When Leston Kade Heflin was presented with the opportunity to steal people’s laundry, he just couldn’t resist. Operating stealthily from a fancy, ‘borrowed’ hotel room, Heflin began sneaking into other domiciles, and running off with the loot.

Unfortunately for Helfin, he wasn’t what Michael Jackson would have referred to as a smooth criminal, and was arrested for Burglary of a Habitation on Tuesday after police were notified of suspicious activity at the local Days Inn.

San Angelo Police Officers T. Coffman and W. Montez were on their way to the motel around 4:00 p.m., on the lookout for a male subject who was not-so-stealthily removing property from random rooms, when they received a call that he’d taken a break to hang out at the Stripes down the street.

Officer Coffman arrived at the Stripes at 3925 S. Bryant Blvd. to find the 24-year-old Mertzon resident sitting out back. Coffman recognized Heflin for his previous criminal handiwork around town and arrested him on site. A records check of Heflin showed he had an outstanding Felony Arrest Warrant for Theft of Service out of Travis County.

A subsequent inspection showed Helfin was linked to a number of ongoing investigations. Following an interview, Heflin was charged for Burglary of a Habitation and his outstanding Arrest Warrant before his transport to the Tom Green County Jail.

Some of the property was recovered from Heflin’s ‘borrowed’ room.
