Alcohol a Likely Contributor in Untimely Death of 23-Year-Old

A party and night of drinking ended tragically on Sunday morning, when 23-year-old San Angelo resident Nicholas Hanks unexpectedly died at Shannon Hospital sometime around 3:30 a.m.

Hanks had reportedly been at a party with friends when he decided to get something to eat. When his friends noticed that Hanks had passed out and that his lips had turned blue, they immediately transported him to Shannon Hospital.

Sgt. Adam Scott of the San Angelo Police Department was called to Shannon at around 3:30 a.m. in reference to the questionable death of a 23-year-old. Scott requested the presence of a Detective, CSI and the Justice of the Peace, and Det. Callum and JP McGuire responded to the scene. An officer from the Sheriff’s office was sent to the residence on FM 1223 to confirm Hanks had been there before being brought to the hospital.

A blood draw was conducted & turned over to CSI for processing and a toxicology report was requested, an SAPD press release states. Det. Callum stated that it appears alcohol may have been a contributing factor in this death investigation pending the results of the toxicology.

The next of kin has been notified.

Any further questions regarding this investigation should be directed to Det. Callum.
