Speeding a Factor in Traffic Fatality

A traffic accident ended fatally on Sunday, when a blue Dodge Charger apparently spun out and collided with a tree at the intersection of 14th and Northgate.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., officers responded to the call and found an unconscious woman identified as Sandra Bocanegra in the driver’s seat. Attempts to revive Bocanegra (40) by paramedics were unsuccessful. Justice of the Peace Eddie Howard pronounced Bocanegra dead at the scene.

Officers on the scene requested response from the SAPD Motors Investigation Unit and CSI. Hit and Run investigator Steven Quade conducted an investigation that revealed speeding to be a contributing factor.

Bocanegra was taken to Johnson’s Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements. The next of kin has been notified and all other inquiries should be directed to Officer Quade. (657-4253)
