GoFundMe Launched for Recovery of Local Food Trailer Destroyed in Explosion

SAN ANGELO, TX – A food trailer explosion late Sunday night destroyed part of a storage facility on U.S. Highway 67 and has forced Merzton-based business The Tasty Kraut to temporarily close, according to posts from the business and the Dove Creek Fire Department. 

The explosion happened around 11:45 p.m. inside a unit at Affordable Storage. Dove Creek Volunteer Fire Department responded first, with mutual aid from the Wall Volunteer Fire Department, Grape Creek Volunteer Fire Department, and the San Angelo Fire Department.

Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke and structural damage. Crews identified the source as a food trailer that had exploded inside a unit. No injuries were reported, and the fire was quickly contained.

The Tasty Kraut confirmed on social media that its food trailer was destroyed in the explosion. “There’s nothing left,” the post stated. The business stated it would be closed for at least several weeks.

Owner Pia Buchwalder has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help with recovery costs. 

“Insurance will cover some of our losses, but there is a lot that isn’t covered,” Buchwalder stated. “We don’t know how and when we can start again.”
