SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo’s Whiskey River Saloon has closed its doors suddenly, leaving staff and patrons without warning. Bartenders confirmed the shutdown, stating they received a message indicating the bar would not reopen, with no prior notice given.
In a social media post, a staff member expressed disappointment over the unexpected closure, especially with the holidays around the corner.
“I really hope the Whiskey fam will stay in touch,” she said.
We had a reporter talk to a bartender who confirmed that they received the same message.
The bar’s abrupt closure follows a series of violent incidents tied to the establishment in recent months. In August, a woman was arrested after a brawl broke out at Whiskey River, where she allegedly assaulted another woman and later spit on an EMS medic who was attempting to treat her.
In a separate case, Julian Suarez, 47, is currently on trial for his involvement in a deadly fight at Whiskey River in October 2022, where U.S. Marine Bryce Rudisell was fatally stabbed. Suarez was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. According to court documents, surveillance footage showed a large brawl inside the bar, which eventually spilled into the parking lot, resulting in multiple injuries and Rudisell’s death.
Ray Vera, the main suspect in the stabbing, was sentenced to life in prison in April 2024.
The bar is located at 125 E Concho Ave.
