City Council Holding Emergency Meeting on Busted Sewer Main

SAN ANGELO, TX – The San Angelo City Council will hold an emergency meeting Tuesday afternoon to take action to repair the 24 inch sewer main that failed Monday.

According to Public Information Officer Brian Groves, the only agenda item is to take action on "an emergency ordinance allowing the award of no-bid contracts for the emergency repair of a 24-inch sewer line break located between Magdalen St. and Oaks St. under the Houston Harte Expressway and amending the budget to allocate funding for such contracts."

As we reported earlier, city crews were working on the sewer main break

The City Council meets at 3 p.m. in City Hall and the meeting is open to the public.

Why cant they just fix it ? It's very sad to see that our city isn't prepared for such things as sewer and or pipeline failures.

Is very regulated in TML codes and ordinances. If a 24" sewer main needs to be replaced under a major 4 to 8 lane expressway, small cities like San Angelo send out for sealed bids from contractors, a time consuming process. They are trying to cut the red tape and make an emergency exception in order to get the proper contractors on the job immediately. They've already implemented whatever stop-gap measures to mitigate the damage.

COSA is one of the most ill-prepared cities I have ever seen. The city manager & council act like nothing will ever happen to our infrastructure & when it does, they go about repairs haphazardly. They can’t even repair simple potholes in nearly all the streets, so why assume they can fix a 24” sewer main - pathetic!
