Ophelia Bargley was born in Yard TX on April 9, 1936, to Sammy and Talitha Norris. She moved to San Angelo TX, where she graduated from Blackshear High School. San Angelo is also the place where she met and became married to her loving husband Curtiss Bargley for over 65 years.
In the community of San Angelo, Ophelia was a devout member of the Busy Bee Sewing Club and Cosmopolitan Club. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church until her passing. As a former member of St. Paul, she has sung in the choir, helped in the kitchen, and even became referred to as a “Golden Girl,” which was a title of recognition gifted to her from the pastor, along with several other elder lady church members after her dedicated service. She participated in hosting events such as the annual Juneteenth Celebration held by the Blackshear Homecoming Committee, hosted fashion shows at the A & Q Beverly Center with the Busy Bees, was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club, and devoted her time and resources to other functions and events.
Her hobbies included listening to soulful music, decorating, sewing, baking, spending time with loved ones, attending church, and making the world around her an incredibly beautiful and welcoming place as she welcomed new people and even made them laugh with her great sense of humor. She was a wonderful storyteller. She also encouraged everyone to do the right thing no matter what. She was a phenomenal praying woman, a loyal and devoted wife, and the best mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and everything in between to so, so many people. She dedicated her life to caring for others willingly, without any questions. She was beautiful inside and out because she loved everyone.
As our dear Ophelia begins her wonderful journey in Heaven with the Lord God Almighty above, we want her to know that her love, lessons, loyalty, and legacy lives on through each of us and we were blessed to have an Angel such as she in all of our lives.
Ophelia is preceded in death by her husband Curtiss Bargley, her two sons Joe Bargley and Curtiss Eugene Bargley.
She leaves behind her two daughters Sebrina Ann Bargley and Detra Felicia Bargley, four grandchildren, Kimberly Ray Jackson, Edric Darrell Lewis, Tiffany Bargley, and Bronshae Lamar Lewis of San Angelo. In addition, she leaves behind a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
