Donald Lee Stamps, 85, of San Angelo, TX, passed away peacefully on June 29th, 2024, after a short illness.
Donald was born on May 11th, 1939, in Newport, Arkansas, to Robin and Ruth Stamps and was a 1963 graduate of the University of Arkansas. Growing up in The Delta, Donald cultivated a love of the Blues and early Rock n' Roll. His love of music took him into the segregated clubs of the time where he saw everyone from Ray Charles to Little Richard. He and his friends even had a handshake deal with Elvis Presley to play at their high school, which unfortunately fell through once Elvis gained national exposure. Donald lived a long and happy life with his beloved wife of 61 years, the former Edith (Edie) Casey of Batesville, Arkansas. His career took them all over the country until they finally settled in Solon, Ohio, where he retired as a senior VP for Ohio Transformer in 2004. But a career was a distant second behind Donald and Edie's true passion: animals. Over the years they owned countless dogs including Sam, Critter, and RFD (Real Fine Dog).
In retirement, Edie started a pet-sitting service fittingly named "Bone Voyage", Donald worked as a dog trainer, and they both visited local nursing homes with their own dogs. Donald will forever be remembered by his friends and family for his kindness, generosity, and affability. He was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Stamps Ford, and his wife, Edie. He is survived by his brother, David Stamps, and his nephews, Theron Stamps and Eric Ford.
