Sheryl Carr Duke, 61, of San Angelo, moved to her heavenly home on June 18, 2024.
She was born on August 29, 1962, in San Angelo, to William Robert Carr and Joyce Evelyn Smith. She grew up alongside her three sisters; Annette, Sandy and Nikki. She attended Central High School, got married and had two sons. Anthony Joseph Duke, Jr. and Michael Brandon Duke. She soon found herself caring for her two boys on her own and filed for divorce. She raised them in faith, as a member of Bible Baptist Church and reading the Bible to them every night. She supported them by working various jobs until she started her own business, cleaning houses.
In 1994, she and her boys became members of Victory Bible Baptist Church, where they all became a part of the ministry, with Sheryl serving by teaching in the children’s church, singing in the choir and going with the ladies to prayer meetings and visitation. She also supported her sons as they became song leaders, preacher boys, youth leaders and soul winners; eventually sending them to teach bible clubs with Gospel Ministries to Children in San Angelo and various cities around Texas.
In 2004, she was diagnosed with colon cancer and underwent surgery and a year of treatment to overcome it. It was one of the most difficult periods of her life to that point but she overcame it with grace, by faith and through lots of prayer.
In 2006, she became a grandmother with the birth of MaKenna Elise Duke, followed by Addison Lynn Duke-Phelps in 2007, Aaiden Michael Ray Duke in 2012, Aleah Renee Duke in 2013 and Cayleigh Rae Duke in 2017. Through these years, she loved and brought her grandchildren up in the same way she had raised her sons: In the light of the word of God and the love of a church family at Harvest Baptist Church, where she served faithfully until her passing on June 18, 2024.
Sheryl was truly dedicated to God and her family. She will always be remembered for her love, care and service to others, her smile and good humor, the sacrifices she made and the prayers she sent up on behalf of those she loved.
Sheryl is survived by her parents, Bob and Joyce Carr, her sisters, Annette Fisher, Nikki Carr and Sandy Goodnight, her sons, Anthony and Brandon Duke, her grandchildren MaKenna, Addison, Aaiden, Aleah and Cayleigh.
A viewing will be held at Johnson’s Funeral Home on June 26, from 3-7 pm.
Memorial Services will be held at Harvest Baptist Church at 11:00 am on June 27, 2024.
