Ila Mae "Tootie" Baker
Ila Baker, 82, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 15, 2024.
Ila was born to Jerrell and Ila Young in Fort Worth, Texas, on November 22, 1941. She
attended school in Jal, New Mexico, where she made lifelong friends who were like family
to her. After high school, Ila attended business school and began working in the banking
industry. On August 14, 1973, she married the love of her life, James Raymond "Butch"
Baker, in San Angelo, Texas. Together, they had two children, Will Ray Baker and Shelly
Fay Baker. Ila devoted her life to Will and Shelly and created a foundation of faith, love,
and support for all who knew her. Ila always loved a household of friends and family and
made all feel welcomed and loved; everyone left her house with a full belly and a heart full
of love. Ila's greatest joy was being promoted to "Grammy" in January 2000 with the birth
of Logan Michael Daly and in 2003 with the birth of Tyler Ray Daly. Ila had a huge heart
and was "Mom" to many. Ila could be found playing Scrabble at the local dress shop or at
her dining room table with family and friends, creating a house full of laughter. To know
Ila was to know love.
Ila is reunited with her loving parents, Jerrell and Ila (Warrick) Young, the love of her life,
Butch Baker, and her baby brother, Duane Young.
Ila leaves a legacy of love to her children: Will Ray Baker and girlfriend Josephine
Medrano of Stanton; Shelly Baker of Stanton; Grandson Logan Michael Daly and fiance
Taylor Marie Fender of San Angelo; and Grandson Tyler Ray Daly of Stanton.
Ila's compassion and strength will always be remembered by those fortunate enough to
know her.
Ila had a servant's heart and loved helping others. In lieu of flowers, the family asks
donations be made to a charity of your choice.
Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people. Ephesians 6:7
Graveside services will be held at 1 :00 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, in Sonora, Texas.
