Betty Ann Horne went home to be with her Lord on March 1, 2024.
She was born in Washington, D.C. on October 6, 1937. Upon graduation from Western High School in D.C. in 1955, Betty’s parents put her on a plane to Texas to attend Abilene Christian College. It was there that she met her lifelong love, Paul “Buddy” Horne, while working registration. They were married 63 years before Buddy’s passing in 2020. They had two children, Kathy and Paul whom she loved dearly. She was determined that they would have the love and support she never received as a child. Betty’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. While wife and mother were her favorite jobs, she also worked at GTE, St. Luke’s Child Development Center, and San Angelo ISD. She was a whiz with numbers, loved games, penny slots, and bridge. She was a member of Johnson Street Church of Christ. Preceding her in death is her brother, Ralph Moody, and her beloved husband, Buddy.
She is survived by her daughter Kathy Matthews (Randy); son, Paul Horne (Shari); grandchildren, Mason Matthews (Brenna), Brian Matthews, Kristin Moore (Robby), KaraLin Root (Jacob); 10 great grandchildren; one niece, Debbie Riggs, and nephews, Roy Horne (Michelle), Tim Moody, and Garland Moody.
There will be a come and go visitation on Wednesday, March 13th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Harper Funeral Home. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Paul K. Horne Athletic Scholarship, c/o ASU Station #11023, San Angelo, Texas 76909.
Rather than sending flowers, plant some in your own garden and remember Betty fondly each time you look at them. We would like to thank Mom’s family at The Crest East-Tanya, Michelle, Tiffany, Shelly, Anna, Taylor and Lenore-for their love and care over the past year. Thank you to Gentiva Hospice and Sarai for supporting and carrying us through Mom’s transitioning and to Mom’s friends- Norma, Vickie, Carol, Jackie and Rose-for faithfully visiting and checking on her.
