Tracy Hollway Saunders, 59, died in San Antonio after a lengthy illness on Friday, Feb. 23, 2024.
Tracy was born March 3, 1964, in San Angelo to Bob and Lexie Hollway. She was the oldest of four children and graduated from Wall High School, where she excelled academically and won numerous writing awards.
Nothing defined Tracy more than her heart. Throughout her life, wherever she lived, she was known for helping people when they needed it most. She was a mother to far more people than just her four children. Over the years, she adopted countless kids and a fair share of adults, and she made all of their lives better. She was kind to a fault, and she always saw the best in people. She always believed people could be saved, no matter how far down they had fallen. She never stopped trying to make the world a better place, and she did. She was also a beloved caregiver in homes and nursing homes, and she brightened the day of many of her residents over the years. It wasn't just a job for her. She was heartbroken anytime she lost someone. Tracy was a free spirit who lived all over Texas and briefly in California. Waco, Odessa, Andrews, Panhandle, Abilene, Crowell and San Bernardino were some of the towns she called home.
She made friends everywhere she went. She had a quirky sense of humor and a wonderful laugh to match it. She lived life to the fullest. When she listened to music, she turned it up loud and sang her heart out. She made every road trip a fun experience. She took her family on camping trips that will never be matched. All of her kids' friends knew her as the world's coolest mom, and she was. No matter the situation, she always found a way. She was tough and made the best of bad times. She was more concerned with others than herself.
In her later years, Tracy was a full-time grandma and never missed her grandkids' games if she could help it. She grew to love volleyball and track and field, and she traveled all around the area to support Veribest and Water Valley. Tracy also enjoyed just watching TV with her mom in the evenings and spending time with her family.
Tracy is survived by her mother, Lexie; sons Paul and Matthew; daughters Stephanie (and husband Chad) and Lexie (and husband Daron); grandchildren Cameron, Ashtyn, Ben, Addi, Liam, Edison, Nolyn, Graci, James, Maddy, Alexander and Cecilia; brothers Bobby, Cameron and Tony; sister Edie (and husband Andy); nephews Garrett, Hugh and Hudson; niece Hannah; uncle Pat; aunt Gayle; and numerous cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, at Johnson's Funeral Home in San Angelo. Burial will follow at Robert Lee Cemetery.
