Alan "Al" William Shea, of San Angelo, TX, passed away on January 26, 2024, at the age of 81. Born in the rowhouses of Philadelphia on December 27, 1942.
During his youth, Al showcased his athletic talents as a left-handed pitcher for Frankford High School and achieved the title of Philadelphia City Fencing Champion in 1960. Graduating in 1961, he embarked on a three-year service in the Air Force, where he crossed paths with Sandra Barnes at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. They later married in 1966 in her hometown of San Angelo, TX.
Al was a civilian safety inspector for the Navy in Pennsylvania. He dedicated his time to growing two karate clubs within local YMCA’s for over 30 years. His joy extended to coaching his only child, Kelly, in all her athletic endeavors including snow skiing.
Following Kelly's move to Texas, Al and Sandra decided to start a new chapter as ranchers near Robert Lee, TX. The Eagle Ranch, named after Al's beloved Philadelphia Eagles, became a haven where he raised Boar goats, donkeys, and guinea hens. His four grandsons continue to cherish the ranch to this day.
Al was a football enthusiast, Al took immense pleasure in watching his grandsons play for the San Angelo Central Bobcats, maintaining his season ticket holder status for 23 years.
He is survived by his sister, Jacque Shea Heiser, two nieces, one nephew, his only child Kelly Shea Martin, her husband Steve Martin, and his four cherished grandchildren: Brock, Channing, Chase, and Davis Martin and wife Jenna, and their newborn Doak.
In his final days, Al spoke of his beloved wife Sandra and how much he missed her. The family finds solace that they are now reunited with their Lord and Savior.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center's new building campaign.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Harper Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00pm.
