Jenny Ruth (McAdams) Erwin was born on December 13, 1949 in Meridian, TX to Robert Willis and Mattie Hazel McAdams. She was the youngest of five siblings and the only girl. Her father was delighted to finally have a girl She grew up on Fairy, TX on her family's farm. As Jenny was approaching high school, her family moved to the nearby town of Hamilton. Jenny would go on to proudly graduate from Hamilton High School in 1967. After high school, she dreamed of being an editor for Good Housekeeping. She attended the University of Texas in Austin to pursue a double major in Journalism and Home Economics. Jenny developed a love for the city of Austin and the University of Texas. During her time at UT, Jenny would marry and have her only daughter, Regina. Jenny left UT before completeing her degree to focus on being a mom. Jenny was a very loving and proud mother. Working as a single mom, she was inspired by a friend to return to college and get her degree. She graduated from Tarleton State University in 1991 with a Bachelor's in Home Economics. She went on to teach Home Economics and other courses at Kopperl along with being the cheerleader sponsor and one act play director. In 1994, Jenny and her daughter moved to Kermit where Jenny would become the Home Economics teacher at Kermit High School. Jenny always wanted to instill confidence, dedication, and passion in her students. Jenny also loved teaching theater, debate, and journalism and spent many weekends at UIL trips and competitions. Jenny always had a thirst for knowledge. She went on to get her Master's in Communication from Sul Ross State University and then a Graduate degree in General Theological Studies from Phillips Theological Seminary. Jenny retired from Kermit ISD but continued to judge and assist area Speech and Debate teams. Jenny was a faithful member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Community Church in Kermit, and First Christian Church in San Angelo.
Jenny is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Willis McAdams and Mattie Hazel McAdams; and her brothers, Dennis McAdams and Herbert Glenn McAdams.
She is survived by her daughter, Regina Attaway and her husband J.C.; her brother, Duane McAdams, her brother, Kennith McAdams, and his spouse Freddie Finstead; her grandchildren Jerrell Robert (JR) and Hazel Ruth Attaway. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She had many friends that became family. She is also survived by her numerous students who she had a huge impact both in the classroom and beyond.
Her Celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, December 27th at 10 AM at First Christian Church in San Angelo, TX. The burial will follow at 3 PM in Fairy, TX.
Pallbearers for the service will be Michael Vargas, Jay Abila, Jake Fires, Wes Jamison, J.C. Attaway, and Bill Boyd.
