Kenneth (Ken) Michael Raymond, of San Angelo, TX passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023 in his residence at the age of 72. He was born on June 5, 1951 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England. His parents were Walter McCollough and Mae (Hannah) McCollough. He was the oldest of four boys.
Ken spent his early childhood in his mother’s hometown of Edinburgh, Scotland. He grew up playing soccer and was rumored to be good enough for the national team. The family moved to the United States and settled in San Angelo, TX in 1965. He graduated from Central High School four years later. He was honored to become a Naturalized Citizen in 1970 and was a proud Texan.
He married Rebecca (Skipper) Raymond in 1971 and they had two children, Cody Raymond and Tammi (Raymond) Sable. He began his career bagging groceries at the local Safe Way as a teenager. He worked his way up to store manager for Winn-Dixie and relocated to the DFW metroplex in 1980. He was with the company nearly 25 years, serving many of those years in DeSoto, TX. He then served as grocery manager for Albertsons in DeSoto for at least 15 years. He returned home to San Angelo in 2003. He then joined Lone Star Truck Group-Corley Freightliner as their Warehouse Manager for over 18 years.
He was a fairly private person, but was loved by his family, coworkers, and neighbors. He was devoted to his family and was so proud and grateful for them. He was a close friend to all his brothers. He loved every chance he got to visit with his kids, grandkids, and great grand kids. Throughout his life, he was an avid collector of Hot Wheels and other model cars. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, when it was running. He loved road trips with family and travelled across much of the United States.
He is survived by former spouse, Becky Raymond and their two children, Cody Raymond, and Tammi (Dallas) Sable. He is lovingly remembered by his two grandchildren, Andre (Diana) Raymond, and Zeek Bartz. Papa Ken will be missed by his three great-grandchildren Asher, Ezra, and Aliah Raymond. He is also survived by his three brothers, Alan McCollough, Brain (Melissa) McCollough, and Doug McCollough and his nieces and nephews: Teri Wendt, Lindsay Wallace, James McCollough, Denver McCollough, Ariana Hasty, Zach McCollough, Lauren McCollough, Hannah Huddleston, and Corbin McCollough.
Ken requested cremation and memorial services will be held Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 2:00pm at Harper Funeral Home, 2606 Southland Blvd, San Angelo, TX 76904. All are welcome to attend.
