On December 13, 2023, Lynne Logan Neilon Alexander passed away peacefully at the age of 82 surrounded by family in her home. Lynne, daughter of Ralph and Virginia Logan, was born on August 9, 1941 in San Angelo, Texas.
Lynne lived her entire childhood in San Angelo and was a graduate of the first graduating class of San Angelo Central High School in 1959 where she served as a leader of the school’s drill team, the Tex-Anns. She later attended Texas Christian University (where she pledged the Chi Omega Sorority) and The University of Texas at Austin, majoring in interior design.
During young adulthood in Houston, Texas, Lynne developed a passion for landscape design and horticulture, leading her to become active in civic and garden clubs in Houston, Laredo, Texas, and New Jersey. Lynne loved plants and worked in the nursery industry across Texas (Houston, Laredo, and San Angelo) as a Master Texas Certified Nursery Professional. She also owned landscape design and installation companies in Houston and San Angelo, designing both commercial and residential landscapes for numerous clients. She later became an active member, including serving a term as President, of the Concho Valley Master Gardeners, learning from friends and teaching the community about West Texas landscaping.
In 1993, Lynne graduated from Angelo State University with a degree in nursing. Following her degree, she earned certification as a Registered Nurse and worked in intensive care, long-term acute care, home health, and psychiatric nursing. She was able to use her nursing knowledge to care for family members, friends, and acquaintances, as well as her late daughter, Courtney. She was also passionate about preventing elder abuse and worked at the Area Agency on Aging as an advocate to assist Concho Valley senior citizens with appeals for Medicare/Medicaid and other issues.
Lynne was a life-long member and Elder of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in San Angelo. She loved the church and served in many capacities, including Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the Elder Committee. She was also deeply involved in the church’s recent updates, serving as Chair of the Capital Campaign and Development project that started in July, 2020 and is due for completion in December, 2023. She volunteered many hours to the development project, earning the respect of the project team, workers, and members alike with her knowledge, skills, and vision. According to a fellow project member, when walking around the church, both inside and outside, Lynne can be seen in every part of it.
Lynne was predeceased by her parents, by her first husband, James Courtney Neilon, and by their daughter, Courtney Lynne Neilon Troup. She is survived by her son, Todd Logan Neilon (Jennifer), and by her husband and companion, (Franklin) David Alexander. She was a loving grandmother to Kendall Lynne Troup, Taylor Ray Troup, Jordan Skye Maxheimer, Bryce Cameron Maxheimer, and Sydney James Neilon. She is also survived by her sister, Tedra (“Teddy”) Jean Logan Kinney (John Eddie), and by her brother, Theodore (“Tad”) Ralph Logan III (Pat), as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Lynne loved all living things. She cared for her cats, dogs, wild creatures, and trees as she did for her human patients. Her home was always filled with beautiful plants and art, often made by her family, friends, or even herself. She loved warm weather, West Texas sunsets, flowers, and the color yellow.
