Michael was born December 26, 1971, in Austin, Texas. When he was six weeks old his family moved to Waco, Texas, where he was baptized in the First Presbyterian Church of Waco. When he was nine, his family moved to San Angelo, Texas, where he attended Crockett Elementary, John Glenn Junior High, and graduated from Central High School. He attended First Baptist Church and then Southland Baptist. He was a member of the Central swim team and enjoyed many hours of training and competing. Michael took some classes at Texas A&M before deciding to be a professional photographer in Austin. After a few years, he enrolled in The University of Oregon, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design.
After graduation, he worked for a few years for a computer gaming business in Las Vegas, Nevada. He married Lisa Hjulberg and had two sons. They moved to Austin, Texas where he worked for Apple and Dell, and then for a Bit-Coin company. He returned to San Angelo where he started an RV park near Carlsbad, Texas. Michael found his true career path in Nursing and was close to getting a degree. His kind, compassionate, and servant nature made him a perfect fit for this role.
Michael loved working with computers, woodworking projects, building things, doing pottery, photography, and anything to do with having fun in the water. He especially loved to scuba dive and was PADI open-water certified. He was gifted in many areas of life and considered everyone he met to be a friend. Michael had such a witty and playful nature and would get the most beautiful smile and twinkle in his eye when he was up to having fun with friends and family.
True Happiness was found when Michael met and married the love of his life, Alicia Ernst, and they were married on June 30, 2023. He has had a big smile on his face ever since. Michael and Alicia were the best of friends and could find joy and laughter in even the mundane things like grocery shopping. Though their married life was short, they packed in a lot of fun adventures and made so many sweet memories that will last a lifetime. Michael was the sweetest and most thoughtful husband and set about each day to make sure their relationship was happy and strong.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Alicia; her mother, Carolyn Fetzner; her sons, Colton and Chase; his sons, Stuart and Matthew; his parents, Donna and Richard Crisp; his sister, Mary Helen Gonzales (Danny) and their children: Zachary, GiGi and Genevieve; his brother, John; his brother-in-law, Mark Fetzner (Tammy); his sister-in-law, Michelle Sankowsky; his aunt, Julie Brugger (Carl), and their children, David and Rebecca; his aunt Kelly Jelensperger (Francis): his uncle, Dewey Crisp (Patsy) and their son Billy; his uncle, Terry Shannon, and his children, Lindsey and Logan; and his grandmother, Jerre Crisp. Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents: Helen and Bill Crisp; Mary and Don Kennemer; and by his aunt Kay Kennemer. A private family burial will be held at Fairmount Cemetery. A memorial service celebrating Michael’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on December 1, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church.
