On this day, we come to honor the life of David Elder Sartain who peacefully passed away on August 17, 2023, at the age of 74. He was born on March 11, 1949, in San Angelo, Texas to parents Merle and Johnnie.
David grew up in San Angelo. He was the second of three children. As the only brother, he learned to be strong, but caring, for his sisters, mother, and family. He graduated from Central High School in 1967. Following graduation, he joined the Navy. David was brilliant mind, a talented person, and someone you could always depend upon. He loved to lend a helping hand to those in need. He had a love of sweets of all kinds or “chewies” as he called them. He loved all things Texas/Country including his trucks, music, and especially “cornbread chicken.” Though it seemed that things came easily for him, David worked very hard for what he obtained in life.
Furthermore, David was a very good friend to all and a “jack-of-all-trades.” He loved to go out to the lake with his friends and family to cruise around. This is where he earned the title of the “Godfather of the Horseshoe” for all his years boating. He was a fierce Cowboy fan. His love for the Cowboys led to his dream of seeing them play December 2022 at AT&T Stadium with his son, Wes. He was also a huge follower of the Central High School Bobcats football team.
David is survived by his wife Penny; his children – Angela, Amanda, Steven, Wes, and Caleb; his grandchildren- Justin, Courtney, Brandon, Hayden, Korlie, Miah, and Eli; 7 Great Grandchildren; sisters- Clara Talley and Trisha Perkins; and puppy children- Missy and Bella.
David’s celebration of life will take place on Saturday, August 26th from 2pm – 4pm. It will be at Harper Funeral Home: 2606 Southland Blvd., San Angelo, Texas.
