The family later moved to San Angelo where she attended local schools and graduated from San Angelo College where she earned Phi Beta Kappa honors and was a member of the Ramettes drill team.
She retired from the Texas Work Force Commission after 30 years as a claims supervisor. During that time she served in various officer positions on the TWC Credit Union and also for the PEO.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Arthur "Rod" Harris , son Randy Harris (Becky Hudman), daughter Debbie and husband David Wood, sisters Joanie Leaver and Cathy Schwartz, grandsons Paul Harris, Dillon Wood, Dalton Wood and numerous great grand children, nieces, nephews and cousins around the country. She was preceded in death by son Mike Harris.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband and they visited Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, Austria, France, Germany, Lichtenstein, Switzerland and every state except Alaska. Her favorite place to visit, except for relatives, was Las Vegas where she enjoyed sight seeing, shows, shopping, dining and participating in Las Vegas' main attraction.
She and her husband were life time members of Holy Angels Church.
The family wishes to thank everybody for their expressions of sympathy and comfort during this time. There will be a private grave side ceremony for the internment of her ashes.
The family suggests any memorials be made to Holy Angels Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
