He worked as a flight instructor and charter pilot for Longenette Flying Service from 1969-73. He went to work for the city of San Angelo on March 1, 1973 as a dispatcher for the Fire Department. He was promoted to Dispatch Supervisor on September 1, 1989, and was appointed Director of Public Safety Communications for the San Angelo Communication Center on September 1, 1995. During his tenure, he helped map the streets in Tom Green County and build the 911 dispatch infrastructure. He retired from city service on May 31, 2001.
During his life, he was active in the Concho Valley CBers Association, San Angelo Atari Computer Enthusiasts, and the Concho Valley Firefighters’ Association. He taught fire service communications for 15 years at A&M University in College Station.

He is survived by his wife, Ann of San Angelo, Texas; daughter Mary Lemons and her husband Steven of Leander, Texas; son John Burmeister and his wife Crystal, of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Davin and Lincoln Burmeister, and Waylon Lemons; and sister Cindy Brown and her husband Dan of Phoenix, Arizona.

Dave loved a good joke and was telling the hospital staff jokes up until his last day there. He loved golf, cruises, dogs, and most importantly family. One of his last quotes to those in the room was: “I love you. I have always loved you, and I always will love you.”
Special thanks to the staff at Shannon Hospital, the San Angelo Fire Department (for escorting him home), Angel Care Hospice, and Live Well Home Care for all they did in his precious last days.
Memorials can be made to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 801 Montecito Dr., San Angelo, TX 76903.
