Ouida F. Lewis Di Petrillo’s beautiful journey began in Littlefield, Texas at home on January 8, 1934. She was born to William Griffin Lewis and Carmen Taylor and was the youngest of the three girls.
Eventually her family moved to Winters, Texas and Ouida became a Winters Blizzard for life. She competed at the state level in typing, she played basketball and volleyball and was a head cheerleader. To say she was a rock star at WHS would not be an exaggeration and naturally she made lifelong friends there.
Ouida was gifted with many talents and hobbies. She mastered everything from oil painting, stained glass, quilting, dominoes, hand and foot, Texas Hold Em and dancing to her favorite country songs.
Her entrepreneurial spirit and fearlessness led her to own a commercial fishing boat business, an Italian restaurant, she joined Mary Kay and she shared Juice Plus passionately. She claimed all those jobs seemed to be easy compared to when she picked cotton as a kid.
Ouida married Albert Di Petrillo, the absolute love of her life in 1976. They loved, raised kids, sailed, danced, made Italian food, caught shrimp and had many memorable adventures but most especially they laughed throughout their entire marriage.
Ouida’s family was everything to her and the yearly “girls trip” that included her two sisters and special nieces was a huge joy for her. They all competed to see who could get the best antique buys all week and of course Ouida often came out on top.
Her big dreams were to have a healthy, happy family, eat no veggies, get lots of sunshine, eat hamburgers, drink chocolate shakes, drive a fast convertible & to eventually dance in the streets of gold with Big Al.
Ouida peacefully gained her wings on November 14, 2022 at home in San Angelo, Texas with her sister and family by her side listening to gospel music.
Ouida is survived by her amazing sister, Theresa Briley of Winters, Texas. Her wonderful kids, Cindy McKenna (Chris) of Springfield, Missouri, Jimmy (Judy) McNeill of Miles, Texas, Cody Mc Neill of O’Donnell, Texas, Jackie (Terry) Covey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Dr. Darci Stotts of San Angelo, Texas, Wendy (John) Burton of Irvine, California, Dana Stotts of Dallas, Texas, Doug Stotts of Laguna Beach, California, Heather Di Petrillo of Kerrville, Texas and Bella Honey (the best Labrador ever).
Ouida also leaves behind dear family friends, Carol (Jay) Berkebile, Dr. Jeri Anderson, Rhuenell Poe-Hall, Margaret Mueller and Peggy Rutledge.
Ouida was blessed with super special nieces and nephews that were like her very own kids and many awesome grandkids and great grandkids.
Ouida is predeceased by her soulmate, Albert Di Petrillo, her grandson Gunnar McNeill, her granddaughter Heather Felts, her sister Wynema Martin, her parents William Griffin Lewis and Carmen Taylor and of course, Aden Charles (the best yorkie ever).
Ouida’s family wishes to sincerely thank Hospice of San Angelo and her very special posse of awesome caregivers.
Her incredible ladies became family during this long goodbye. Ouida was passionate about remaining in her home during her Alzheimer’s experience and these very gifted, dedicated ladies created a safe, beautiful environment for her for over two years.
So, in lieu of flowers, if you feel as moved as we do, please consider donating to a special “caregiver account” set up for these angels on earth at Bank of San Angelo (325-947-8400) or use the Venmo link https://account.venmo.com/u/Darci3m and 100% of your love for Ouida will go to these ladies so they can continue to be a blessing to others.
