William Bennett “Bill” Russ, 77, of San Angelo passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022. Bill was born on August 22, 1944, in Austin, Texas. He was the oldest of two sons born to Jimmie B. and Cleola M. Russ. He graduated from McCallum High School (Austin) and attended the University of Texas. Bill transferred to Texas A&M University where he received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Wildlife Science. He was a member of Alpha Zeta honors fraternity at Texas A&M. He Married Cindy Lynn Montz on June 3, 1967, in Austin.
Bill proudly served as an officer in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1971. He immediately went to work as a wildlife biologist for Texas Parks and Wildlife and spent the majority of his career in Sanderson, Texas where he met many people over his 29-year career. Upon his retirement he became a hunting outfitter in Pecos and Terrell Counties. He was a lifelong fisherman (especially fishing at Lake Amistad) and hunter (especially hunting in Texas and Wyoming). He loved the outdoors and spending it with best friends Bill Coursey, Rick Davidson, Larry Hawkins, Jerry Laycock, Mark Marshall, and Talmage Marshall. He also made many trips with his cousin Leroy Hart.
He is survived by his wife, his daughter, a brother, and several nieces and cousins.
The family would like to thank Solaris Hospice for the care he received during his final days. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Bill and Cindy will be together forever in a niche at Fairmount Cemetery.
