John Franks Hilton, Jr. 92, of San Angelo passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, in San Angelo. John born May 24, 1929, in Newport, Rhode Island to John Franks Hilton, Sr. and Violet Mary Dawson Hilton. He grew up in the Florida Keys, and at the age of 17 enlisted in the United States Navy. John served his country honorably for over 28 years. Enlisting as a Boatswain’s Mate, later receiving appointment into Warrant Officer program in 1966, an elite group known as “Mustangs”, retiring with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3. Deciding to travel after retirement from the Navy, settled in the Santa Fe New Mexico area where he met and later married Evelyn Maree Adams Johnson on January 4, 1984. John enjoyed traveling and hiking especially in the Big Bend area of Texas. His true passion was painting, selling many oil paintings of the Big Bend area. John is survived by his wife of 38 years, Evelyn M. Hilton, of San Angelo; his sons, John Hilton III and his wife Lucy, of Charleston, S.C., and David Hilton and his wife Pamela, of San Angelo. John is also survived by his 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. At the family’s request John will be laid to rest at a later time in the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
