Alton (Al) Hooker passed away March 5, 2022, peacefully at his home at the age of 85.
Al was born in Mereta, Texas on August 3, 1936, to Agnes and Verdo Hooker. He grew up in San Angelo and joined the United States Air Force right out of high school.
22 years in the Air Force allowed Al to travel to many parts of the world and to truly appreciate the many blessings he was afforded in the United States.
The dental field was Al's chosen career. He served proudly in Military clinics for his first 22 years and an additional 22 years in Civil Service in the dental clinic at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo until his retirement in 2004.
Al was proud of his many accomplishments and awards but always looked forward to retirement so he could spend special time with his children and grandchildren.
Al is survived by his wife of 32 years, Patricia Hooker who loved him dearly thru thick and thin.
Al had two sons Dr. Ronny Hooker and wife, Karen, and Michael Hooker. Whether playing golf with Ronny or those beautiful daily visits under his many pecan trees with Michael, Al treasured every minute he had with his boys.
His six grandchildren constantly made him proud with their presence and many accomplishments. He was ready and excited to attend any function his children and grandchildren participated in including but not limited to wheelchair basketball, football, cheerleading, track, dance recitals, Play days, trail rides, BBQs, parades and more! Grandchildren are Jackie Bailey, Jessica Bailey, Jordan Bailey, Dr. Sara Halfmann and spouse, Jake, Katie Lombardo and spouse, Matthew and Captain Christopher Hooker and spouse, Victoria.
Horse breeding and horse racing with Ronny was a thrill always for Al. He acquired his share of win pics. Papa Al was in the barn to oversee the horse grooming and preparation for AQHA horse shows. He was always there sometimes till 2:00 am and be up and raring to get on the road for a Horse Show by 5:00 am the next morning...Papa Al loved the shows and could be found in the arena or of course front and center row.
Although Al had many friends and didn't know a stranger, there were several he held near and dear to his heart, which included Frank Jackson, Cameron Mouw, Nick Adam, Phil Perkey, Morris Hopkins.
