Betty was born to Weldon and Vena Hatley on June 25, 1946, in San Angelo, TX.
She married Donald (Don) Charlesworth on February 14, 1965, and while stationed at numerous locations during their military days, she had four children who were born in Wichita Falls, TX, Japan, Hawaii, and San Angelo, TX.
Known as Mom, Betty, Nanny and Friend to more people than can be mentioned. The family wishes to thank all the individuals that Betty called friend or ofttimes that she considered as part of her extended family. While there are too many to mention here, the family would like to acknowledge a few. Sheryl one block to the east, and Sharon one block to the west. Next-door-neighbor Bennie (and all of Bennie’s Family), Joann and Neko. You all don’t know how the occasional calls or drop-ins were appreciated, and how often you gave that “right on time” boost!
And then Raquel, an extra-special thank you from the family to you. The past 2 - 3 years have been especially challenging, and your over-the-top support and care was immeasurably off the charts. Had one not known, one would have simply thought you were one of Betty’s daughters. Your unyielding kindness, care and love did not go unnoticed, and you will forever be appreciated!
If we could pick someone who had a life that “possibly” ran a fair parallel to that of Job, we believe Mom fell somewhat into that category the past few years. Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, she clearly understood the magnitude of what she was faced with, and yet was undeterred during the treatment process and subsequent issues that occur from concentrated, localized radiation. When she had her first of three intense radiation sessions, she told us of how the table shook and that she was absolutely convinced the cancer had been completely knocked out of her: a true “bigger than life itself” testimony of her faith in God. The pain, frustration, and issues she dealt with throughout the past few years were without a doubt counterbalanced by this unyielding faith in the Lord. All who had the privilege of being close at hand got a snapshot of how faith in the Lord eases all pain. Her go-to bible verse can be found in Philippians 4:13; “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
While the outcome for many of us may not be what we would like in this moment, we do recognize that Mom is doing far better than anyone can imagine, and we have no doubt she’s doing a whole lot of catching up in heaven right now. She is wrapped in the loving tenderness of our Lord and is feeling no pain! When we want a touch of Mom or Nanny, we will easily find her gentle, loving, and caring soul in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A tremendous legacy Betty June, Mom, Nanny and Friend has left.
She is survived by her children; Susan (and Bruce) Snow, Will (and Janet) Charlesworth, Teresa (and James) McDonald, Brenda (and Brad) Greebon, her bother Donald Bryant and 14 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with 3 more great-grand babies due to be born in January, February, and March respectively.
A special Thank You to the Staff at Shannon Medical Center, New Haven Assisted Living, and especially to Concho Hearts Hospice for your care and loving touch in Betty’s life.
