Maria de Lourdes Ana Zamarripa Hernandez McCormick, affectionately known as “Lule”, departed to heaven October 29, 2021 at age 66. She fought for many years and passed peacefully in the comfort of her own home.
Maria was born August 5, 1955, to Juan and Gregoria Hernandez in San Antonio, Texas. She was 1 of 11 children that described her as shy, calm, smart, and cared greatly for her siblings. Growing up, she excelled in academics, but always made sure to mention that she lettered in tennis. Shortly after high school, she proudly served in the Army Reserves for two years, and four years in the Air Force, where she met her lifetime partner Stephen McCormick. Together they enjoyed living in several states, before deciding to settle in San Angelo, Texas, where they built their home and raised their three children.
As a mother, she frequently saved her only son from his tormenting sisters. She loved to save recipe clippings despite Steve’s very bland palate. She made the birthday cupcakes, attended every event, volunteered for school events, and spent hours in the Texas heat watching soccer games, under an umbrella of course. She was a sweet, gentle soul who was also considerate, selfless, kind, and toward the end, had a little bit of sass. She loved to read, and gave detailed descriptions of the stories that she immersed herself in. As a hidden jeopardy genius, it tickled her to demolish her husband nightly on recorded episodes.
Maria is survived by her husband Stephen McCormick, her daughter Robin Mills, son-in-law Justin Mills, daughter Audra McCormick, son Derek McCormick and daughter-in-law Anna Danckwardt-Lillieström. She had two granddaughters who were everything to her, Sienna and Gianna Mills. Additionally, she is survived by eight siblings and countless loved ones because she was so easy to love.
No services will be held. Maria loved the beach, particularly walking the coastline and picking seashells. It was her wish to be cremated and brought back to Cape Cod.
