Leslie Gail Rainey went to be with her Lord and Savior, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Lubbock, Texas June 29, 1958. She moved to San Angelo when she was in 7th grade, attending Glen Junior High. Shortly after, her and her family moved to Sherwood where she attended Mertzon High School. She worked with her dad at College Hills Meat Market in San Angelo, TX. Then later at Fischer’s Meat Market in Grape Creek before her over 10-year career at HEB in the meat market.
Leslie is preceded in death by her parents, George F. Rainey, and Anita Lance Rainey. She is survived by her daughters, Michele Sanders, Mindy Sanders-Dyer, and Tristan Varner; grandchildren: Makayla Cruz-Donaldson and husband Dillon, Montana and Kolten Dyer, and Ryker Trejo; great-grandchildren Granger and Elena Donaldson; and brothers Doug Rainey and wife Teresa, George Rainey and wife Nancy.
She always had an open house to her daughter’s friends, loved 80’s country music, Elvis, all animals, bluebonnets and yellow roses, and jigsaw puzzles. She loved going out to the deer lease, helping people, and rescuing animals. Her greatest joy was her family who will forever remember her as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her heart of gold was transparent to all who met her.
There will be a graveside memorial service at Sherwood Cemetery on Saturday, September 25th at 1:00p.m., where she will be buried next to her father. A celebration of life will immediately follow at Sherwood Courthouse. Her daughters Mindy and Tristan would like to create a memorial garden at their home. They will plant trees, bushes, flowers, morning glories, honeysuckle, etc. If you would like to contribute, please reach out to any family member.
