Roy Gordon Scrivener Jr, lovingly known as "Papa Roy" went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 15, 2021at the age of 92. After being diagnosed with cancer, he passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family in San Angelo, Texas.
Roy was born in San Antonio, Texas to Roy Gordon Scrivener Sr and Sadie Battaglia on September 14, 1928. He attended Alamo Heights High School but did not get to finish his senior year or walk the stage due to school closures because of the Polio outbreak of 1946. (He later received his honorary diploma and finally got to walk the stage with the Alamo Heights graduating class of 2002.) Following high school Roy enlisted in the Navy in 1946 and served as a seaman in California for two years. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal for his service. He attended Trinity University and San Antonio College and later ran Scrivener's Lumber and Hardware. In 1960 he married Sherry June Dunbar and took on his favorite role, being a dad to his children, whom he referred to as his "PRIDE & JOY". Roy founded "Roy Scrivener, Builder'' where he built custom homes for over 40 years in San Antonio. He and June later divorced but remained dedicated to raising their children. After a successful construction career, Roy retired to The Villages, Florida in 2001. Being away from hisfamily did not last long, he moved back to Texas and lived at Rio Concho Manor in San Angelo for the duration of his life.
He spent his time making memories with his kids, grandkids, great grandkids and making friends with everyone he met. He never knew a stranger and usually entertained with funny anecdotes and one liners. He was a faithful member of the New Life Ministries Business Men's and Women's Bible Class were he met his dearest friends and his best girl, Jeanie. Roy and Jeanie soon became inseparable and developed a routine of dinner dates and game nights. It was Roy and Jeanie until his very last day.
Roy is survived by the love of his life, Jeanie Elder, his daughter Joy Scrivener Semlinger and husband Johnny, his son Glenn Scrivener and wife Rose and her brother JD Bishop, his granddaughter Jennifer Semlinger Biggs and husband Rode, grandson Justin Semlinger and wife Jessica and grandson Jason Rowden, his GREAT grandchildren Jillian, Sutton and Sadie Biggs and Jemma, Jentry, Jolie and Jetten Semlinger.
