Peggy Trotter Williams passed away on Monday, December 28, 2020, at Woodhaven Senior Living Community in Conroe, Texas.
Peggy Trotter, fourth child and third daughter of the late Cloma Vee Gilbert Trotter and the late Charles Ezra Trotter, was born on December 22, 1938, in Ozona, Texas. She married Harvey P. Williams on October 10, 1958, one year after their first date. They were married until Harvey’s death in 2019.
After living for a brief time in Lubbock and Alpine, Texas, Peggy and Harvey moved to Concho County, Texas to make their living in agriculture. Having grown up among ranchers in Crockett County, it was quite a cultural shock for “Miss Peg” to move to a farming community. Her favorite cowboy made the move bearable and over the years she learned to love her home. When she had to leave sixty years later due to health reasons, not a day went by that she didn’t say she wanted to “go home to Concho County.”
Peggy was a professional woman using her talents of bookkeeping and organizational skills to keep others in line for many years. Beginning when she was in college at SAC, she worked with the San Angelo Board of City Development and the Sheep and Goat Raisers Association. Peggy moved on to being the “woman in the know” as secretary at Veribest School, and later at the Tom Green County Treasurer’s office and Tom Green Water Control & Improvement District.
Peggy’s daughter, Janelle, was a Mama’s baby and never wanted her mother out of her sight! Peggy kept her busy by teaching her to read at a very early age and schooling her on the joys of shopping! Janelle never tired of being by her mother’s side.
Peggy was a member of the Wall Brethren Church. She enjoyed the years she spent going to church there and learning to make kolache with the Christian Sisters, even if she could only do the easy jobs!
The best times of her life, however, were spent checking on the cattle with Harvey. Mostly because she thought that’s when he was the happiest, and she loved to see him happy.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harvey P. Williams; brother, Buster Trotter; and sister, Mary Sue Trotter.
Her survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Janelle Williams Welch and Terry Welch of Decatur, Alabama; her granddaughter and her husband, Lindsey Webb Grumbles and Jimmy Grumbles of The Woodlands, Texas; great-granddaughter, Sailor Emily Grumbles; sister, Jeanette Trotter Gunter; sister, Vivian Trotter McMullan; and brother, Ed Trotter; sister-in-law and her husband, Joanie and Clayton Friend. Others who added to her family circle include: Brian, Brandi, Carter and Jackson Gratton; Aaron, Kari, Aaden and Kinsley Cancino; Jacob, Kelsi and Hudson Van Fleet; Brynn Grumbles; and many dear nieces and nephews.
Rev. Tommy Tallas of Wall Brethren Church will officiate a graveside service at The Eola Cemetery on Tuesday, January 5th at 2:00 pm. All are welcome to attend.
A celebration of the lives of Peggy T. and Harvey P. Williams will be planned for later in 2021.
