Audrey Daniell-Ehrlich died peacefully surrounded by her family at home in San Angelo on December 27, 2020 from complications of ovarian/fallopian tube cancer. She was 62.
Audrey was born September 25, 1958 in Florence, Texas to her parents Evangeline Daniell and Aubrey Daniell. She graduated from Georgetown High School in 1976, where she dazzled football fans as the feature twirler for the band and won many first places in statewide twirling competitions. She graduated on December 19, 1982 from Texas Woman's University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy. After becoming licensed, she nurtured and grew a successful therapy practice all over the Panhandle and West Texas. She was an occupational therapist for many cooperatives and health care providers, most recently Menard Special Education Cooperative, Three Rivers Special Cooperative in Miles and Grape Creek, and Small Schools of San Angelo.
She helped hundreds of students with learning disabilities to improve their learning and become productive citizens. She befriended and was a protector of the poor, the underserved, the underprivileged and the mistreated. She particularly wanted to see that special educational services were readily available and provided to students with challenging disabilities. She relished working as an ardent and passionate advocate for students with physical and mental disabilities and willingly accepted difficult and sometimes hopeless cases.
Her faith grew stronger in the face of a grim prognosis and multiple setbacks in her medical treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Undeterred and with the prayers of many of her friends and family, she eagerly advanced the science of treatment of ovarian/fallopian tube cancer. Her goal was to help them find an effective treatment for all women with these cancers in the future, enthusiastically joining five different clinical trials over four years—all of them experimental. Though uncomfortable and difficult, the clinical trials resulted in a wealth of knowledge to continue the quest for a cure. Her willingness to fight was amazing. Only a few days before her death, she said, "We’ve a long way to go folks- I'm not done fighting."
Audrey’s greatest joy was her family, to whom she was a kind and nurturing spouse, mother and grandmother and a fiercely loyal cheerleader. She leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. Audrey is survived by her spouse Dana Ehrlich of San Angelo; her daughter Jessica Bishop and spouse Ben Bishop of New York City, and their children Beau and Hope; her son Daniel Ehrlich and spouse Taylor Schoberle of Austin and their son David Ehrlich; her mother Evangeline Daniell of Florence, Texas; her brother James Daniell and sister-in-law Janet Daniell of Brenham, Texas, and their children Jake Daniell, Aubrey Daniell and Jamie Daniell Miller; her brother David Daniell of Florence; her brother Scott Daniell and sister-in- law Andrea Daniell, and their children Cody Daniell and Hayley Daniell. Her father Aubrey Daniell predeceased her on April 17, 2020.
Thanks to all family members who gave freely of her time and resources, providing care and rest when Audrey really needed it. Special thanks to Hospice of San Angelo and the amazing people at MD Anderson Cancer Center: Dr. Charles Levenback and Dr. Apostolia Tsimberidou, and the dozens of kind and loving doctors, nurses, medical team, and staff who took good care of Audrey.
Memorials may be given in her honor to Concho Valley Home for Girls, Box 3772, San Angelo, Texas 76902. A memorial service is planned later for this summer.
