J. Phillip Walker, 77, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at his home in San Angelo, Texas.
He was born to Herman and Janet Walker in San Angelo, Texas on May 23, 1941. He graduated from Eldorado High School, Sul Ross State University, and received his MBA from SMU’s SW Graduate School of Banking.
He met the love of his life, Marilyn Glover, through his sister, and married her on December 17, 1966. They were married for almost 50 years at her death.
Phillip had a gift for remembering people, names, and faces, which served him well in his work, at the First National Bank of Mertzon, and in his ministry with the church. He worked at the bank for 44 years. While there, he volunteered with the Mertzon Volunteer Fire Department as a firefighter, EMT, and ambulance driver.
He was also active in the Lions Club and his church before retirement. He and his wife were longtime members of First Baptist Church of Mertzon and First Baptist Church of San Angelo, and most recently of Southland Baptist Church of San Angelo.
Phillip was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, his parents, his sister Janna Lambert, his brother-in-law Roger Lambert, and his brother-in-law Lewis Gardner.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Matthews of Austin, his son, Jim Walker of San Angelo, his brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Deanne Walker of Kerrville, his sister-in-law, Rose Marie Glover Gardner of Austin, and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family, who love him dearly.
His legacy of caring and giving will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
Services will be held Wednesday, August 8th, at 1 p.m. at Fairmount Cemetery, led by Chris Curran of Southland Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be directed to Meals for the Elderly of San Angelo or the charity of your choice.
