Charlene (Charlie) Barnhorst, born July 1, 1924 in Portales, New Mexico, has passed away June 17, 2018.
She was a member of the Glenn Meadows Baptist Church. After living in Denver, Colorado for 35 years, she moved to San Angelo 12 years ago. She worked over the years as a legal secretary and lastly as a secretary for the US Geological Survey in Golden, Colorado.
Over 20 years ago, she assisted in a charity to provide food to people under the poverty level in South America. With her generous contributions, this organization has been very successful in feeding children that otherwise would not have resources for food. Charlie never wanted for children or animals to go hungry. Charlie was a very generous lady contributing to many charities, friends, and families when in need. While living in Denver, she was an avid tennis player in her 70’s, earning many local awards. Charlie loved gardening and took a great deal of pride in her flowers, plants, and yard.
Charlie was preceded in death by her husband, George (Barney) Barnhorst; her parents; two sisters; and her first born, Charles (Chuck) Cooper.
Charlie is survived by five children, Susan (Susie) Daniel, Donald (Don) Cooper and wife Liubasha, Ronald (Skip) Cooper and wife Kim, Julie O’Daniel and husband Dirk, and Stacy Kistner and husband Dale. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, along with many precious friends and other family members that meant so much to her.
A Memorial Service will be held at Glen Meadows Baptist Church, Friday, June 22nd at 10 a.m.
