John “Clay” Clayton Schkade, 58, passed away at his home on Thursday, May 17, 2018.
He was born to Leslie and Janett in Abilene, TX. Clay married Wendy on September 21, 2004 in Las Vegas, NV.
Clay was truly in his element working on a cable tool drilling rig. He spent most of his life drilling everything from water wells to oil wells to elevator shafts. His profession allowed him to work in all parts of Texas as well as New Mexico, Oregon, Colorado, Maryland, Washington D.C., and many other places.
Clay had a deep love for his children and as they were growing was often seen taking them to work with him and teaching them to operate equipment, weld, and countless other things. Later in his life, he was blessed with 4 grandchildren and enjoyed loading them up with sugar and toys and giving them back to their parents.
He was extremely proud of the time he served as a Gideon and the opportunities it afforded him to minister.
Survivors include his wife Wendy, his son John, step daughter Laura, 4 grandchildren Crimson, Londyn, Lance, Emma; two brothers Wayne and Greg; his mother Janett; nieces Brandy, Ashley, Jacklyn, Kristen; nephews Joshua and Gavin; along with many other cousins, family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son Lance and his father Leslie.
A viewing will be held on May 25 from 5 - 7 p.m. at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo, TX. Graveside services will be held on May 26 at 1p.m. in Ivy Cemetery in Christoval, TX.
