Larry A. Behrens, of San Angelo, passed away suddenly early Saturday, March 18, 2017 one day short of his 76th birthday.
He was a beloved husband, an adored PawPaw, a loved and respected Father, and cherished brother. He was an example of trust, faithfulness, kindness, love and integrity. His greatest pleasures were his grandchildren, his Church, his Thursday lunch group, and treasured lifelong friends and business associates.
He was born in a wooden frame home in San Saba, Texas on March 19, 1941 to Arnold H. Behrens and Kathlyn Busby Behrens. He grew up in San Saba, graduating from high school, where he made many lifelong friends.
He graduated from Southwest Texas State College in 1964, and began a teaching career in Sonora, Texas, then moving to San Angelo and teaching at Central High School. Still young, he changed course and moved to Austin where he worked for TXDOT. In 1973 he returned to San Angelo where he began to work for JHRussell &Son. There he found his true calling as a Ranch Broker and Appraiser, opening his own office in 1981. At the time of his death, he was still actively working along with his son at Behrens Ranch Sales where he leaves a legacy of honesty and integrity that he passed along to his son through his endless example. He represented many prominent ranching families that he was proud to call clients and friends.
He served on the District Methodist Church Parsonage Board for many years. In addition, he had served as an usher and on the Building Committee at Sierra Vista United Methodist. He had been a Board member of the San Angelo Realtors Association, receiving a 40 year Realtor member recognition award in 2014. He was a dedicated steward of the land, practicing conservation methods on the place that the family owns.
He is survived by his wife of forty years, Carmen, his son Blake and wife, Dana; his step children, Kelley Byrd and wife, Stacy, of San Antonio, Kortney Bailey and husband, Kyle; grandchildren Kassidy Tanner (Ashton Braddock), Tyler Tanner, Tripp Bailey, Pierce Behrens, Peyton Behrens, and River Braddock (great grandson), all of San Angelo, his sister, Kay Hilburn (Dawn and Reg) of Stephenville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his maternal grandparents, his two special Aunts Frances Moore and Alma Van Saal.
Pallbearers will be, Charley Christensen, Chip Cole, Marvin Hall, Tom Lee, James Maedgen, and John Morris.
Honorary Pallbearers will be, Carter Behrens, Jerry Curry, Steve Eustis, Larry Garvin, Dr. Tom Jeter, Rudy Menchaca, Kenny Sanders, Jerry Sefcik, and Larry Walker.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday March 20th at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Sierra Vista United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
