The world lost a wonderful man on Thursday, June 9, 2016 in San Angelo. Duke was born December 28, 1955 in Chandler, AR to Alfred Stanley Allen, Sr. and Violet Elizabeth Iverson Allen. As a child, he lived all over the world as his father was a Colonel in the United States Air Force. Duke was always very proud of this fact and his experiences. He received his Bachelor Degree in Psychology from Arizona State University and started his career in Respiratory Therapy. After a few years, he became a teacher of Respiratory Therapy at the college level in Arizona. Duke then moved to Texas where he eventually settled in San Angelo and started teaching at Howard College. He married Viki Vasek on December 28, 1989 in Las Vegas, NV and they shared 26 beautiful years together. Everyone who knew Duke, knew what a loving kind, brilliant and hilarious gentleman and teacher he was. He loved teaching, researching genealogy, restoring vintage photos and performing stand-up comedy. His keen sense of humor, sharp wit and kind hearted nature allowed him to joke with anyone and get laughs out of everyone. He also loved having a nickname for everyone and everything in his life. Duke loved his family deeply. His life was so much bigger because they were in it. We think it is the other way around. Our lives were bigger because Duke was in ours! He was preceded in death by his parents. Duke is survived by his loving wife Vicki Allen, of San Angelo; his children, Whitney Poulson and her husband, Jeffrey, of North Carolina, and Jason Rhinebeck and Laura Dansby, of San Angelo; 4 Grandchildren; and his Sister, Linda Webb, of Meza, AZ. He is also survived by a host of friends he dearly cherished.
The Memorial Service will be 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Watkins officiating.
“I have one cup of coffee each morning just to start the day off right. The others are to keep me out of jail, help me form sentences, and fuel my razor sharp wit!”
No truer words were written to describe Duke Allen!
