Virginia Lucille Watkins, 59, of Big Lake, passed away Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Virginia Was born Feb. 19, 1956, in San Angelo, to the late Bill and Bessie Faries Pennington. She was raised and spent her life in Big Lake, graduating from Reagan County High School in 1974. After raising her children, she attended Angelo State University and was just weeks away from graduating with a nursing degree when a debilitating illness forced her to quit. She was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Big Lake. She also drove the school bus and was a substitute teacher for the Reagan County schools for a number of years.
Virginia was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She was a very strong woman who was loyal and committed to her beliefs and had a zest for life. She loved being the wife of a rancher and being a mom to her children. She adored her grandchildren and loved taking care of all children and being "mom" to everyone. She loved being outdoors, especially gardening and fishing and helping on the ranch. Some of her favorite hobbies included sewing, cooking, crafting and decorating.
Virginia is survived by her husband of 40 years, Johnny Watkins; son Cody Watkins and his wife, Coral; daughter Lori Watkins; and grandchildren Cheyenne, Caitlynn and Colton James, all of the ranch in Big Lake; sister Caroline Pennington and brother Billy Pennington and his wife, Charlene, all of Brownwood; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.
Open visitation will be held Wednesday and Thursday at Johnson's Funeral Home, where friends may pay their respect. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Big Lake with J.B. (Byron) Bitner and Gerald Bastin officiating. Burial will follow in Stiles Cemetery, Stiles, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Randy Rieger, Rex Pennington, Rusty Adams, Shawn Adams, Todd Pennington and Caleb Edwards.
