Merrill Louise "Lu" Garrett, 83, longtime resident of Craig, Colorado and more recently of San Angelo, Texas, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2015 in San Angelo. She was born to the late, Leland Ray and Mary Jane Jebens Smith on Saturday, January 9, 1932 in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Lu was of Christian faith. She worked over 35 years as an elementary school teacher in Craig, CO. After retiring, she came to Texas to be closer to her grandson, Greg. She enjoyed reading, working on needlepoint projects and especially traveling worldwide with her friend, Pat Cook.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date for friends and family in Craig, Colorado.
Survivors include her son, Jay Garrett; grandson, Greg Garrett; siblings, Leland Ray "Johnny" Smith, II. and wife, Sally, Bradford M. Smith and wife, Jacki, and Lynn Bolleter and husband, Robert; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends, including her many close friends in Craig, CO, who were like family to Lu. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Diane Drost and Jayne Tuttle.
