Kent Gentry, Bronte, Texas, died peacefully on July 2, 2015.
He was born March 3, 1940 in Lubbock, Texas, to H.L and Freida Gentry. He attended Shallowater schools and graduated in 1958.
He served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965. He spent a year and a half with the U.S. Missile Detachment in Germany. Upon his return in 1965, he married Juanette Williams.
Kent worked for Higginbotham Bartlett in Shallowater, Anton and Post, Texas before becoming manager of the store in Colorado City, Texas. In 1977 he began managing Higginbotham Bartlett of New Mexico with stores in Lovington and Hobbs. During his tenure stores were added in Andrews and Snyder in Texas and another in Artesia, New Mexico. He was President of Higginbotham Bartlett of New Mexico for 27 years.
All his life, Kent was active in the United Methodist Church and held many leadership roles. He was Chairman of Trustees in both Lovington and Bronte and was chairman of the building committee for major building programs in both churches. He loved working for the church and spent many hours doing the physical work involved in maintenance and upkeep of the church property. Kent loved doing for others and had many friends and family that loved him.
Kent was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Cathryn Strawn and his brother Hulen Gentry.
He is survived by his wife Juanette, his nephews Ronald Strawn of Lubbock, Kenneth Strawn of Cascade, Montana, David Gentry of Lubbock, and his niece, Bonnie Bourland of Lubbock. His is also survived by his brother-in-law and wife, Wenzel and Janice Williams of Fort Worth, nephew Zac Williams and family and niece, Sondy Williams of Coronado, California.
Visitation will be Monday, July 6, 2015 at Shaffer Funeral Home in Bronte with the family present from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at First United Methodist Church in Bronte, Texas. Interment will be at 4:00 p.m., July 7, 2015 at Resthaven in Lubbock, Texas.
