Allen Richard Johnson passed away peacefully and was received by his lord and savior on Jan. 22, 2015, surrounded by his family and friends.
Allen was born July 11, 1931, in Springfield, Missouri, to Herbert and Nettie Johnson. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1949. Shortly after graduating high school Allen enlisted with the United States Air Force and married Betty Lou Lowe after completing basic training. They traveled the world together and eventually made San Angelo their home.
Allen retired as a senior master sergeant after 24 years of service and along with his wife opened Johnson's Photo Center. Allen and Betty also volunteered at the Historic Santa Fe Depot which he helped create and served as director. Allen's love of history preservation, photography and railroads can be seen in his collections donated to the railway Museum of San Angelo and Pocahontas, Arkansas, where he was awarded the key to the city.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Betty Johnson; and his brothers, Gene and Arthur.
He is survived by his sister, Nadine Johnson of San Angelo; and his four children, Rick Johnson of Arlington, Nicky Johnson of San Angelo, Connie Bradford of Euless and Linda Johnson of San Angelo. He also was an amazing grandfather to eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank his wonderful friends that have helped him over the years and his ""girls"" that he loved to visit at First Community Federal Credit Union at Goodfellow Air Force Base.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Interim Hospice of San Angelo and to the Railway Museum of San Angelo.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
