Joe Clayton Sellars, 59, of San Angelo, passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 10, 2014. A funeral service will be held at Glen Meadows Baptist Church at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 13, 2014 with Sr. Pastor Mack Roller officiating. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Garden.
Joe was born on January 8, 1955 in Midland, Texas. He lived much of his life in San Angelo. He graduated from Central High School in 1973. He attended Angelo State University and earned a BA in History. He graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth with a Master of Religious Education. Joe married Tracy Stone in 1985 and they had one daughter, Katie, who is the pride of his life.
Joe returned to San Angelo in 2008 and was a member of Glen Meadows Baptist Church, the Genealogical Society, and served on the planning committee for the Class of 1973 Reunion last year. His enthusiasms included all sports, researching his family tree and Facebook. He was an avid reader and had an impressive memory. Joe will be remembered for maintaining friendships through the years - from Travis Elementary to present.
Joe is survived by his daughter Katherine Eileen Sellars of Vernon, Tx, his parents Gene and Virgie Sellars, his brother Van Sellars of Nacadoches and his sister Rebecca Louder and her husband Gene of Stanton. He is also survived by nieces and nephews Tullie and Jayna Louder, Carly Louder, Sarah and James Chaney and one great-nephew Caleb Louder. Extended family includes his uncle Lee Harrison and wife, Judy, and cousins Mark and Linda Harrison and Rev. Keva Green.
