Mildred Louise Havins, born to Fred and Willie Terresa Havins in Lometa, Texas on Dec. 13, 1914, will be buried in Robert Lee on April 29, 2014.
She grew up in and around Robert Lee. Some of her earliest memories were picking cotton and farm chores in addition to playing with her six brothers and sisters on the family farms near Sanco and Valley View in Coke County. She married Roy Gene Denman in Bronte, Texas on July 19, 1932, and they made a home in Coke County for many years. They raised a daughter, Theresa Jean Denman Brady, in Robert Lee Richland Springs and Brady, Texas. Later, Mr. and Mrs. Denman managed Dietz Memorial Monument Co. in Cleburne, Texas for 30 years.
They enjoyed dancing, cook outs, gardening and spending time with friends and family. After Mr. Denman's death in 1985, Mrs. Denman ("Granny") lived with her daughter and children, in Gettysburg, Pa. and later Wheaton, Ill. Mrs. Denman returned to West Texas in 1997, and lived in San Angelo where she worked as an aide at Austin Elementary. In 2010, she entered a nursing home near one of her grandsons, Patrick Brady and his family in Waco, Texas. Mrs. Denman's faith in Jesus Christ was a source of strength, comfort and pleasure for her throughout her life.
She was baptized by her grandfather, Andrew Lackey, who was a circuit preacher on the west Texas frontier, and she was a Baptist who attended church faithfully. It always pleased her when her daughter and later her daughter's children and grandchildren made a profession of faith and demonstrated it by water baptism. She loved her family ? her husband and descendants as well her many brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces and nephews with whom she corresponded as often as she was able. She was rarely idle. If she was not cooking, cleaning or sewing, she was reading or working puzzles. She was a great cook and truly a "cookies and milk" granny.
Mrs. Denman is survived by the couple's only child, Theresa Jean Denman Brady; a grandson, Patrick Brady, his wife, Robin and their two daughters, Kyla and Megan Brady; another grandson, Kelly Brady, his wife, Sherri, their son Andrew, and their two daughters, Micah and Rachel Brady; and a granddaughter, Erin Smith, her husband Eric Smith, and their two sons, Brady and Tully Smith. Mrs. Denman is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews and their extended families as well as one cousin, Kenneth Lackey and his wife Kay Lackey. Pallbearers for the service will be Patrick Brady, Kelly Brady, Eric Smith, Roy Leek, Louis Ornelas, Daniel Flores, Andrew Brady and James Porter. Honorary Pallbearers for the service will be Kenneth Lackey, Brady Smith and Tully Smith. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2014, at Johnson's Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014, in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Kelly Brady officiating. A graveside service will be held in Robert Lee Cemetery in Robert Lee, Texas.
