Syble Fay Haney 88, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at a local hospital.
Syble was born to Wallace "WC" and Cynthia Mrytle Tilghman Stoner on August 16, 1925 in Jack County, Texas. She grew up in Gordon, Texas and graduated from Gordon High School as salutatorian. She met the love of her life in Gordon and married Thomas "Orval" Haney on July 7, 1943 in Camp Pendleton, Oregon. Syble graduated from Angelo State in 1969 when she was 44 years old and went to work, until she retired, from the Texas Dept of Human Services. Syble was a founding member of Lakeview United Methodist Church and was an active member there volunteering for many different ministries. She was elected as Lay Delegate to Annual Conference many times and served as church treasurer for many years. She was an avid reader and read multiple versions of the Bible. Syble enjoyed knitting and sewing and especially loved to give her family the fruits of her labor. She was a music lover, especially the Big Band Era. Syble spent the last 11 years living at Royal Estates and made many close friends that she enjoyed spending many hours gaming with. She loved football, pro and college, but was careful around her brothers as to who her favorite team was. Syble lost her mother when she was 8 years old and had 3 younger brothers to mother. She grew up in a household of 5 brothers and being the only girl, she became an excellent cook along with many other attributes which well equipped her to raise her three sons.
Mrs. Haney is preceded in death by her parents WC and Cynthia Stoner, her husband T.O. Haney, one son Wallace Haney, and a daughter-in-law Ann Haney.
Mrs. Haney is survived by her step-mother Louise "Momma Lou" Stoner, two sons Tom Haney and wife Mary Beth, and Harvey Haney; five brothers Don Stoner and wife Sula, Herbert Stoner and wife Joann, Calvin Stoner and wife Ann, Herman Stoner, and Mike Stoner and wife Ann; two sister-in-laws Gail Haney, and Charlene Yocum; seven grandchildren Jason Haney, Devin Haney, Michelle Ross, Amy Haney, Ashley Haney, Sara Arreola, Les Haney; five great grandchildren Hannah Haney, Nicholas Haney, Sean Ross, Kole Haney, Elijah Arreola; one step great grandchild Ashley Wayland; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Sunday April 6, 2014 at Johnson's Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday April 7, 2014 at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
The family wishes to thank Ruben and the nursing staff on the third floor Progressive Care Unit at Community Medical Hospital and the nursing staff at Meadow Creek Nursing Home for their care of Syble.
