Over $20,000 Worth of Locksmith Equipment Stolen and 17-Year-Old Arrested on Outstanding Murder Warrant

At 7:22 a.m. this morning, San Angelo Police were dispatched to a vehicle burglary that occurred in the 3300 block of Voight Blvd.

Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for SAPD, said an officer made contact with the complainant, a locksmith, and observed a silver Ford Edge with the driver’s side doors open, as well as the rear lift gate.

“The vehicle was a Pop-A-Lock vehicle,” said Gonzalez.

She stated the complainant told the officer he parked and locked the vehicle in his driveway at 8 p.m. last night, and his wife discovered the vehicle with its doors wide open this morning.

“No damage was done to the vehicle, but over $20,000 worth of equipment was stolen,” said Gonzalez.

She added that CSI was called out to process the vehicle.

There were no arrests in this incident, but since our last report yesterday, 24 additional people made their way to the Tom Green County Jail for various offenses. A 17-year-old, Lupe Martinez Chappa III, wanted on an outstanding murder warrant in Temple, was among those arrested.

Currently, we are waiting for more details on the murder from Temple Law Enforcement, but we do know that Chappa was booked into TGCJ at 6:33 p.m., and his bond is set at $1 million.

Including Chappa, 16 people were arrested on outstanding warrants, seven people on new complaints, and one person had both a new complaint and outstanding warrant.

A press release from the Temple Police Department this afternoon stated that yesterday, at about 3:31 p.m., investigators with the Temple Police Department, The Texas Rangers, Department of Public Safety and the San Angelo Police Department made an arrest of shooting suspect Lupe Martinez Chappa III. He was arrested in the 2400 block of Culver in San Angelo. The Bell County District Attorney's Office issued an affidavit for Murder, and a warrant was obtained for Chappa's arrest with a bond set at $2 million dollars (Odyssey showed $1 million).

Originally, on April 13, 2016, at 7:38 p.m., Temple Police officers responded to a Shots Fired call in the 400 block of North 7 Street. Responding officers were advised that someone had been shot.

Upon arrival, officers found two Hispanic males who had suffered apparent gunshot wounds. One victim was deceased on scene, and the other was transported to Baylor Scott and White Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The release noted that the investigation is still ongoing and updates will be provided when available.
