New Businesses Coming to San Angelo Include Chick-fil-A and Heff's

San Angelo will be the new home for a few new businesses and expansions soon. Businesses see the population rising and they are reaping the benefits as they build new stores and expand their businesses in San Angelo.

The idea of a Chick-fil-A coming closer to campus has been thrown around for a bit now, but yesterday zoning was discussed by City Council and finalized for the new Chick-fil-A. The location will be at the southeast corner of Knickerbocker and S. Jackson. After permits are approved and things start kicking into gear, the company hopes to start construction in June; it will be a four-month building process.

Students are excited that a Chick-fil-A will be right around the corner.

“It’s about time they put more food option close to campus,” said Chris Morales, a student at ASU. “It is a lot closer to home, which will benefit a lot of people, especially for people who don’t have cars.”

Many people have eaten and enjoyed Heff’s delicious burgers, but not everyone has heard about the business's plans to expand and build new locations here in San Angelo. The goal is to bring two new locations to the north and south sides of town.

The new Heff’s, on the north end of town, will be located by the McAlister’s on Bryant. The location on the south side of town has not been confirmed yet, but Heff’s is still looking into bringing another location to San Angelo.

Brenda Heffernan, the owner of Heff’s Burgers, said, “Everyone has treated us real well down there and people seem to love our burgers.”

Construction of the location on Bryant is expected to start soon and Heffernan's hope is to start within the month. If construction breaks soon, expectations of opening will be at the end of July or early August.

“We were expanding all over West Texas but San Angelo is considered home for us, so we wanted to build two locations in San Angelo,” Heffernan added.

Next, two new Walmart Neighborhood Centers are coming to San Angelo. The construction of both locations is underway and management has high hopes of opening the doors soon. The location for the Supercenter is S. Jackson and Bryant. It will be about 182,000 square feet and include an eight pump fueling station. This Walmart is expected to open its doors in May of this year.

The other location is smaller with 41,000 square feet, but close to neighborhoods for essential needs like groceries, cosmetics and more. It is located at Knickerbocker Rd. and Valley View Blvd. The opening will be in the spring or summer of 2016.

Some new nightlife is also coming to San Angelo. What used to be Woofers and Tweeters is now known as The Tilted Mug. It is located at 3520 Knickerbocker Rd. Though the business opened for a little “test run” in the past couple of weeks, the business will not have its Grand Opening until April 30th. Tiffany and The Lump will be playing that night to bring in the epic new nightlife hot spot.

The Tilted Mug will be a fun spot to karaoke on Wednesday and Friday nights. It will host plenty of live music and drink specials.

“Frank and Amber Zarauskas have taken it over and made this place their own,” said an employee of The Tilted Mug. “We have been doing pretty well so far, even with no advertising, so I’m excited.”

These are just a few interesting additions coming soon to the city.

Why don't one of these business use an already existing empty building? Like where Arby's was located on Knickerbocker or the one building across from Taco Bell. I think it was a bank previously.

I hope Heff's open a location on the Southside of town soon. There are no burger joints on this side of town. San Angelo does not take advantage of Goodfellow personnel. We need more places to dine in or carry out.
